Mission Statement of the Dominican Province of St. Martin de Porres

In the footsteps of Saint Dominic and inspired by the charism of Saint Martin de Porres, we friars preachers embrace the mission of Jesus Christ to proclaim the Kingdom of God to a changing world. Animated by our common life and study, we commit ourselves to proclaim God's Word in pulpits and in print, in classrooms and in the media and arts, in the Southern United States and beyond.

St. Albert the Great Priory & Novitiate is a community of Catholic priests and brothers. While not a parish, the Priory chapel is open to all Catholics in the area for the daily celebration of Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours. In this community, young men live out their first year as a Dominican friar as they discern their vocation as a Dominican priest or brother. Your donations help us form young men into your future priests and brothers. Thank you for your partnership and prayers for this vital mission.

ABOUT US

St. Albert the Great Priory & Novitiate is a community of Catholic priests and brothers of the Dominican Province of St. Martin de Porres. The Dominican friars first came to Irving, Texas, in the late 1950s to serve as chaplains and as professors at the University of Dallas. In the early 1960s, they extended their ministry by joining the staff of Bishop Lynch Catholic High School. The original Priory was established on the University of Dallas campus in 1964. In time, the community moved to its current location, situated at the edge of campus and adjacent to Holy Trinity Seminary.

Today, the Dominican friars of St. Albert the Great Priory minister not only in the Diocese of Dallas but across the Southern United States and throughout the world. Their service has included teaching, spiritual direction, retreat leadership, and administrative roles at Holy Trinity Seminary. They have also been actively involved in parochial ministry, Hispanic outreach, hospital and prison chaplaincies, and the formation of deacons and lay ecclesial ministers. Their apostolic work includes preaching missions and retreats across the U.S., as well as in Africa and Latin America. While the Priory is not a parish, its chapel welcomes all local Catholics for daily Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.

What makes St. Albert the Great Priory & Novitiate especially significant within the Province of St. Martin de Porres is its role as a House of Formation. Here, men beginning their journey as Dominican friars live out their novitiate year—a time of deep discernment and formation—as they seek to answer God’s call to serve as Dominican priests or brothers.
